October 2019 at the Beach

There is not going to be much commentary here … mostly pictures. We spent the month of October 2019 at South Padre Island, Texas. For the most part we had wonderful weather and there are so few people here – this might actually be my new favorite beach time. I saw a couple of new things (even though I’ve been coming down here since 1976) …. we saw spoonbills, a pair of osprey were frequent daily visitors, I witnessed one of the most intense lightning storms of my life – it lasted at least 4 hours and there was lighting/thunder every 3 seconds, we lost power for 12 hours, 31 power poles were blown over on the main boulevard, and most of the pool chairs ended up in the pool or disappeared entirely (a tornado warning accompanied the storm but there was never a tornado just straight line winds). Sienna joined us for Fall break and Granny came down for 11 days. The majority of these pictures are taken at sunrise. I just love the cloud formations here. That’s about it for the commentary … hope you enjoy the pictures.

We stayed in Ocean Vista room 902 and rented through PIRentals

I was trying to take a picture of Jeff and Sienna in the surf but this seagull insisted on being in the picture

There were so many mornings where I felt like I was the only one on the beach

There were 31 power lines blown over by the storm. It took them a week to fix them and get the main street reopened
Extremely high tides
One day after the storm a 5000 gallon tank showed up on the beach … maybe from one of the offshore oil rigs? I never saw how they removed it but it was gone the next day.
My favorite picture!
Where are all the people? I don’t care! I loved this!

Last day here and I found about 50 cents on the beach
A crab playing dead on the beach
These crabs have really upstaged the first crab on the playing dead thing
Last afternoon … time to pack and head home to the COLD weather
